In Ethiopia, DCA’s area of works includes Humanitarian Response, Food Security, Resilience Building of vulnerable community members, and Gender and Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations.
Currently, DCA Ethiopia Office is looking for a competent and qualified MEAL Assistant. The MEAL Assistant will contribute to the successful management and implementation of DCA’s Objectives.
Position Summary
The MEAL Assistant supports the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities for the ECC Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) project in North Wollo and Waghimra zones. The role ensures systematic data collection, monitoring of project indicators, accountability to affected populations, and documentation of learning to strengthen evidence-based programming and improve humanitarian response.
Purpose
Support the implementation of the MEAL framework by collecting, managing, and analysing data related to MPCA interventions. Ensure accurate tracking of project indicators and maintain updated beneficiary databases using digital data collection tools such as Red Rose (RR) and Kobo Collect.
Engagement
- Implement MEAL Systems: Support the application of DCA’s MEAL policy and project MEAL plan, ensuring systematic monitoring of ECC MPCA activities and project indicators.
- Monitoring and Assessments: Conduct field monitoring, beneficiary verification, and post-distribution monitoring (PDM), and support baseline and other project assessments.
- Data Management and Reporting: Maintain updated project databases, including the Beneficiary List, and contribute to timely and accurate monitoring reports.
- Data Analysis and Learning: Compile and analyze monitoring data to track outcomes related to cash assistance, food security, and coping strategies, and document key lessons learned.
- Accountability and Coordination: Support community feedback and complaints mechanisms and collaborate with Programme teams to strengthen accountability and evidence-based decision making.
Delivery
- Technical Support and Accountability: Support the functioning of feedback and complaints mechanisms and promote CHS standards to strengthen accountability to affected communities.
- Learning and Documentation: Document lessons learned and best practices to support programme learning and continuous improvement.
- Data Quality and Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of MEAL data and reports in line with project and donor requirements.
- Coordination: Work closely with Programme and CO MEAL teams to integrate MEAL activities into project planning, monitoring, and implementation.

About You
Required Qualification:
- Minimum Diploma in Development Studies, Statistics, Economics, Demography, Project Planning and Management, or a related social science field
- Minimum of two years’ experience in monitoring and evaluation
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including in humanitarian or refugee contexts
- Strong skills in M&E systems, including data collection, management, analysis, and reporting
- Practical experience using Kobo/KoBoToolbox for data collection, data extraction, and analysis, particularly for PDM
- Solid understanding of project cycle management
- Ability to design and implement data collection tools (surveys, interviews, FGDs)
- Effective communication skills, with attention to data protection, confidentiality, and diversity
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain strong working relationships.
