Senior Data and Insight Advisor

About the Job

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Monitoring and Evaluation Director, the Senior Data and Insight Advisor will play a critical role in guiding data-driven decision-making within the organization’s health programs. The role holder will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to generate actionable insights that enhance program effectiveness and strategic decisions, ensure high-impact public health interventions, and contribute to global knowledge sharing.

The role holder will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements, develop data collection methods, and generate actionable recommendations based on their analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in data analytics, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex findings in a clear and concise manner.

Responsibilities:

Data & Insight generation

  • Lead the development and implementation of the data and insight strategy; this entails engaging program and M&E team to align on content and contribute towards implementation.
  • Lead the design and implementation of robust data collection systems for public health programs, ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
  • Analyze complex data sets to derive insights that will inform strategic program decisions, improve public health outcomes, and support advocacy efforts.
  • Develop predictive models and trend analyses to forecast the impact of public health interventions.
  • Lead and support M&E team on data-driven reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders, donors, and Amref Ethiopia partners.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data analysis and data visualization. Share best practices with the M&E and data analytics personnel for constant growth

Insight for Strategic Programming

  • Lead evaluations to measure the impact and effectiveness of health programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and global standards.
  • Work closely with the internal departmental heads, M&E directors, and teams, and participate in the formulation of data-driven departmental/business decisions.
  • Facilitate workshops and technical training on data-driven decision-making and evidence-based programming for country teams.
  • Support the development of tools for routine data quality assessments and audits.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data and analytics to drive business growth and process improvements.
  • Responsible for driving departmental culture and promoting data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Evaluate and improve the existing business intelligence and analytics tools across organization.
  • Support the generation of research products – evidences, manuscripts for publications etc.

Communication and Programming

  • Support the data -driven insights that inform programing and strategic direction
  • Supports departmental leaders in making strategic, data-driven decisions and long-term plans for the organization.
  • Establishes the organization as a leader in making data driven decisions by actively participating in data conferences, workshops, seminars, and so forth.
  • Champion internal insight and intellectual property management of the organization
  • Support strategic communications including organizing workshops and producing publications to promote collaboration and learning.
  • Support the generation of evidence of various learnings and analytics and support the KM departments as necessary. Assist in identifying and responding to key learning issues.

About You

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in administration, above in data science, Statistics, Public health in Epidemiology, social science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional qualification.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Over seven years’ relevant experience with over three (3) years in a demonstrated professional experience in data and insight
  • Strong analytical, data management and data insights & visualization commercial experience
  • Understanding of program level analysis and performance analysis
  • Demonstrative experience in programming, analytical and visualization software
  • Familiarity with the International NGO sector and understanding of donor perspectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communications and public speaking skills
  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst or similar role, with a focus on data analysis and insights generation.
  • Solid understanding of statistical concepts and methods, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and data sampling.
  • Knowledge of data management principles and practices, including data cleansing, data transformation, and data quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Experience in the industry/domain relevant to the organization is a plus.
