About the Job

The Opportunity 

The Preject will help Ethiopia protect education gains to date, and to level up regions with poor education outcomes and educational inequity. This will be achieved through a focus on equity, including girls, targeting other marginalised groups, and developing regions; and a focus on improving learning outcomes, particularly foundational learning, and the transition to secondary school. It will boost results under other programmes in Ethiopia, on health, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH), that also focus on gender issues such as maternal health, early pregnancy, and menstrual health management.

The intended impact and outcomes for the project are:

  • Impact: High quality inclusive education for children across all regions of Ethiopia
  • Outcomes:
    • Increased access to education for girls and other marginalised children;
    • Improved teaching quality and learning outcomes.

The Regional Lead position will represent Plan International as part of a Core Team of technical experts, who will be responsible for providing technical assistance for the project. The Core Team will lead delivery across all programme outcomes. The Regional Lead will support the successuful implementation and delivery of the project in a specified region (TBC) of Ethiopia. They will work collaboratively with the Core Team to develop constructive relationships with government, at both strategic/policy and service delivery levels, to positively influence and achieve the programme outcomes.

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff in the unit/function/department are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day to day work.
  • Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted

About You

  • BA/Master of Arts degree in education and related fields (Curriculum Studies, Educational Psychology, Educational Planning and Management, social work, sociology, and other related fields of studies).
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience which at least 3 years in managerial position with NGOs in leading programs/ projects or demonstrated equivalent combination.
  • Experience in successfully delivering education programmes of similar complexity
  • Ability to work effectively, collaboratively and develop constructive relationships with government, at both strategic/policy and service delivery levels including positive influencing skills.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in government planning and budgeting processes, as well as a strong technical education background.
  • Local knowledge and networks in Ethiopia ensuring that strong working relationships are maintained with academic institutions, civil society, and other development partners.
  • Sufficient understanding of education delivery through different channels, and education systems reform in Ethiopia, together with an understanding of the political, cultural context and challenges in Ethiopia.
