 Job summary 

To provide quality health care and medical services for host community& IDPs.

Main duties and responsibilities. 

Patient Care and Management:

  • Provide comprehensive clinical services, including diagnosing and treating patients’ ailments in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Provide consultations with diagnosis and treatment of illnesses of adults and children based on the patient management guideline, and IMCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses) of Ethiopia. 
  • Support the treatment of co-infections in children diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition and referred to an appropriate outpatient treatment program. 
  • Provide appropriate referrals to the relevant referral sites in a timely fashion without delays as per the health center referral sites.
  • Provide support to store and dispensary pharmacy in order to ensure proper medicine stock management ( updating bin cards, stock card, consumption report, storage, and stock report ) 
  • Prescribe medications and instruct patients on correct usage based on guidelines 
  • Ensure medical supplies are available and support the projection of needs 
  • Compile weekly and monthly reports required by the Ministry of Health as well as to donors and provide to the clinic in-charge and team leader. 
  • Follow EPI routine/campaigns sessions at clinic and catchment 
  • Follow infection, prevention, and control protocols through maintaining good hand hygiene and appropriately using personal protective equipment. 
  • Attend to medical emergencies and perform minor surgical procedures as needed.
  • Conduct health education sessions to promote preventive health measures within the community. 
  • Provide patient education and instruct on prevention methods for illness, proper nutrition, and hygiene 
  • Ensure all patients are treated based on the Guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the IMCI guidelines 
  • Ensure rational use of drugs such that only those essential for treatment are prescribed, do not overprescribe. 
  • Provide compassionate and respectful care to all patients who present to the clinic
  • Develop one success stories per month and submitted to your team leader. 

Program Implementation:

  • Implement health programs, including maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases management.
  • Engage in community outreach activities to improve health awareness and access to medical services.
  • Work closely with local health authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated health service delivery.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide integrated health services.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation of medical services provided such as tally sheets, registrations and appointment cards. 
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on health program activities and outcomes.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Train and mentor junior healthcare staff and community health workers and support other staff and colleagues to maintain good infection control practices to prevent spread of illnesses within the clinic and among the staff. 
  • Stay updated with the latest medical guidelines and practices to ensure high-quality care.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of medical supplies and equipment
  • Assist in managing the budget for health programs and ensure efficient use of resources

Additional responsibilities  

  • Support other areas of the clinic as requested or needed to ensure efficiency and quality of care to all 
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, disposing of waste and sharps appropriately. 
  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding.

Physical conditions                                                                                                                                                       

This position requires frequent travel to health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.

About You

Education, licenses, & certification

  • Medical Doctor (MD), or BSc in Health Officer 

Experience

  • At least 2 years’ of professional experience after qualification for medical doctor
  • At least 3 years’ of professional clinical experience after qualification for health officer 

AND

  • At least 1 year related experience in NGOs.
