Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated and result driven market development professional who will be responsible to increase household access to WASH products and services by creating new markets or making existing markets work better in rural and pre-urban locations in Ethiopia by (i) driving improvement in and expansion of local businesses to include innovative WASH products and services; (ii) engaging and working with partners and governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to strengthen the enabling environment for WASH markets; (iii maximize program integration and promoting learning across the different WASH technical teams, departments and consortium; (iv) training and standardization of approaches in sales, marketing, and development of business models; (v) overall accountability for program targets and deliverables and staff management.
Key Result Areas:
- Programmatic objectives in the respective region (e.g., regional adoption, learning, growth performance)
- Entrepreneur training, development, mentoring, and sustainability (profitability)
- Business model and service delivery model development (e.g., number of business models developed, number of enterprise services “franchised/branded” within the business models, number of products sold/services rendered through supported enterprises, profitability of supported enterprises)
- Stakeholder engagement: regional and local government officials, consortium and other partners
- Staff management: management of regional team and oversight of partners to coordinate consortium activities to be aligned with market development
- Coordination and integration of implementation activities at the regional WASH activities (e.g. logistics, planning, reporting, review of performance).
- Coordination and integration of consortium activities so field activities are effectively aligned and harmonized with PSI initiatives, strategies, activities and outcomes.
- Compliance: donor and PSI WASH programmatic compliance requirements are met. Adherence to GoE sanitation marketing, One WASH program and other documents are followed up and ensured.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead tasks related to WASH business development, market assessment, selection of business partners and sales agents, product development activities, linkage of HEWs with sales and marketing activities and replication of activities in the respective region. (Program delivery)
- Develop annual regional plans including program work plan, procurement needs and budget in accordance with overall PSI and program/s strategy and objectives. (Program planning and contribution to strategy)
- Engage with relevant government/local partners to effectively foster coordination and partnerships with private sector partners/stakeholders to scale up WASH business models. (Public Private Partnership)
- Constantly seek to improve business partners, identify their barriers to growth and facilitate solutions that can enhance the success of their businesses.
- Represent the WASH project in the respective region as a liaison with local administration and other stakeholders of the project. (Regional representation)
- Oversee WASH program implementation at the project consortium level (partners are WISE, Vision fund and IRC WASH) and support other team members. (Team coordination)
- Develop regional level forecast sanitation product needs, business inputs required, and training needs in line with the annual plan. (Sales planning and facilitation)
- Provide regular, concise reporting on program activities, documenting and sharing key lessons on the potential to scale up identified business models with a private sector perspective. (Business Development)
- Support the development of WASH technical team, including leadership of consortium members, through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback. (Team management)
- Oversee and ensure WASH business models/strategies, activity implementation, partnership and budget expenditures that adhere/comply to the PSI standard. (Compliance)

About You
Qualification and Experience
- Master’s degree in Business administration, Marketing, Economics Public Health/ Environmental Health or related fields with six (6) years of demonstrated experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Public Health/ Environmental Health or related fields with eight (8) years of demonstrated experience
Additional Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in business development, sales and marketing
- Preferable to have experience in design and implementation of sales and marketing programs, community mobilization, micro enterprise development, working with government and non-governmental partners
- Proficient in English and Amharic languages, both in oral and written communication
- Knowledge of regional languages would be an advantage
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness to be based in a regional office and travel extensively
